The star of today’s post is the Acapulco Chair. This is a design from the 50s. Unknown authorship and made by artisans in Acapulco, which is a magnificent example of representative design of a place and a culture. The chair began to be known in the cliff “La Quebrada” in Acapulco, Mexico. It was the holydays destination chosen by Hollywood figures of the era. Even Kennedy family were photographed in these chairs, which were part of the furniture of the terraces in the area. This made achieve worldwide fame and become an object of desire quickly.
Its design was created especially for relaxing by the sea and its concave shape composed of vinyl strings on a steel structure recalls the technique used by the Maya to weave their seats. The arrangement of the strings generates a suitable permeable fabric to the stifling summer heat. Besides its organic shape makes them really comfortable. The original pieces are coveted by collectors. Nowadays the company “Acapulco”, owns the rights to manufacture the chair. Available in this version with structure in black or white and with its strings in over ten different colors, resisting up to 150 kg.
Either way is a very good option to complete a stay of our home, what do you think?. And what of the Acapulco chair in the room of the kids? In this case accompanied by the wonderful Warhol quote that we saw here.
