During those few weeks, I took up the project of decorating a wooden box with six drawers that I intended to give my mum as a birthday present (to be used as either a jewellery or a sewing box).
This is no make-over, as the wooden box was brand new, but thought that it could also inspire you to do some projects yourselves. I didn’t use chalk paint but instead went through the old process with gesso and acrylic colours, applying several techniques in order to get the final result: some plasterwork, some stencil work, some decoupage, I used masking tape in a few widths to get the straight lines and gold leaf that would match the golden details on my mum’s Louis XV armchairs. Generally speaking, I used quite neutral tones so that the box could easily blend in any atmosphere, no matter where she’d decide to place it.
I also decorated the inside of the top lid and lined that compartment with some beautiful wallpaper. (Later on -not shown in the pictures, though- I placed some transparent plastic on top of the wallpaper to protect it from scratches as my mum keeps her scissors there). Finally, I added some passementerie to hold the lid open and also for the hinges to last longer.
This is the final result, I hope you like it. Please remember you can leave a comment here or write to me directly at mismueblesnuevos@gmail.com
