Gracias a las vacaciones de verano he podido por fin terminar mi último proyecto. Lo llevaba entre manos desde hacía demasiado tiempo y ya tocaba. En uno de mis paseos por las tiendas de caridad de mi barrio, vi esta cómoda de madera sólida que necesitaba una reforma urgente. ¡Fue toda una ganga, 15 libras! Una vez en casa y con la ayuda de Pinterest, decidí lijar la parte superior y ver qué tal quedaba. La madera estaba en muy buen estado y, sin el barniz, se veía mucho más natural. Así que con un poco de tinte, le di un acabado más oscuro y listo. El resto lo pinté en esmalte blanco semi-mate que tenía por casa tras darle dos pasadas de imprimación.
Como os dije en otra entrada, ?el que se equivoca, aprende?. Hace unos años pinté una cajonera y con la ilusión, pinté todo el cajón, incluyendo los raíles. Claro, como os podréis imaginar, ya no se abren ni cierran con tanta facilidad y se quedan enganchados. Así que os recomiendo dejarlos sin pintar. Para facilitarme el trabajo, puse cinta de pintor alrededor del cajón y así pude pintar la parte frontal sin miedo. Los pomos son una combinación de Ikea y los tres más pequeños, que venían con la cómoda, pintados con pintura negra mate para metal.
La combinación de madera y blanco queda muy bien; ahora a ver si no se ensucia mucho. Esta cómoda me la quedo de recuerdo, al menos de momento.

Wood chest of drawers
Thanks to the summer holiday, I have finally been able to finish my last project. It had been hanging around for a while and it was about time that I tackled it. On one of my strolls around the charity shops in my neighbourhood I saw this chest of drawers that was crying out for help. It was a bargain, just 15pounds! Once at home and with the inspiring help of Pinterest, I decided to sand the top part and see what it looked like. The wood was in a very good condition and, without the varnish, it looked very natural. So with a little bit of wood dye, the top got a darker tone and it was ready to go. After two coats of primer, I painted the rest of the piece with matt white varnish that I had at home.
As I told you before,? the person who makes mistakes, learns?. A few years ago I painted a chest of drawers and with the excitement, I painted the whole drawer, everything, even the runners. As you can imagine, they still don?t open or close easily and they get stuck. So I don?t recommend that. To make this job easier, I put masking tape around the drawers and then I was able to paint them without any fear of getting them dirty.
The knobs are a combination of Ikea and the three smaller ones, which came with the chest of drawers, were painted with matt black paint for metals.
Wood and white colour is a winning combination. Now let?s hope it does not get dirty easily. I love this piece so much that I am going to keep it, at least for the time being.
